Associated Press

A gas explosion that caused a fire near Trinidad's capital has injured 13 people, including three reported in critical condition.

Police say they believe a spark set off an explosion in a restaurant's gas tank Thursday just north of Port-of-Spain. The explosion damaged five businesses and sent glass and other debris flying in the upscale suburb of Maraval.

Health Minister Fuad Khan tells The Associated Press that the injured are being treated for burns and smoke inhalation.

Police say a truck apparently was servicing gas tanks at El Pecos restaurant when the explosion occurred.
