Gas explosion in Dominican Republic injures 40, levels homes

An early morning explosion has rocked an LPG gas distribution station in the Dominican Republic's capital of Santo Domingo, and officials say several homes have been destroyed and at least 40 people have been injured.

Fire Chief Oscar Garcia says Tuesday's explosion occurred in the densely populated community of Los Rios. Rescue workers are hunting for survivors in the ruins.

Garcia says the 40 victims are hospitalized. Officials are investigating what caused the explosion.
