Former manager of Leeds United acquitted in Dubai tweet case

A spokesman for a former manager of the British football club Leeds United says his client has been acquitted in a case involving a tweet sent on his behalf while he was serving a prison sentence in Dubai.

Ian Monk, a spokesman for David Haigh, said the court made the decision Monday. Haigh's lawyer could not be immediately reached for comment.

Haigh has been imprisoned since May 2014 on a fraud charge. Just before his scheduled release, his supporters say the case alleging he committed "cyber slander" through a tweet sent on his behalf saw him detained longer. Haigh has maintained his innocence throughout his imprisonment.

Monk said: "David now hopes to be reunited with his family in the UK for Easter. He will have more to say then."
