Ex-British lawmaker made $95,000 in bogus expense claims

A jury has ruled that an ex-British lawmaker made bogus expense claims totaling about $95,000, but she won't yet face punishment as she receives treatment for mental health problems.

Margaret Moran, who served from 1997 to 2010 as a legislator with the Labour Party, forged invoices to make false expenses claims.

Though the jury concluded Tuesday that Moran had committed 21 offenses, it could not technically find her guilty as she had been declared unfit to stand trial.

Judge John Saunders said that Moran could at a later date be made the subject of a supervision order or a hospital order.

In 2009, scores of lawmakers were revealed to have wrongly billed the public for items including pornographic movies and an ornamental duck house. Six legislators were jailed.
