European interior ministers debate how to prevent Syria jihad, terrorism after Brussels attack

European interior affairs ministers are meeting to discuss ways to prevent radical Muslims in their countries from traveling to fight in Syria's civil war and then returning home to commit acts of terrorism.

Greek Public Order Minister Nikolaos Dendias is chairing Thursday's meeting in Luxembourg. Upon arrival, he told reporters that it was prompted by a deadly shooting at the Jewish Museum in Brussels last month and the subsequent arrest of a suspected French jihadi whom officials say had been in Syria.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said the risk had been abstract until now. He expects the ministers group to announce conclusions next month.

European anti-terrorism coordinator Gilles de Kerchove was to brief ministers on current anti-jihadi measures around Europe during the closed-door meeting.
