Denmark's intelligence chief resigns hours before report on fatal Copenhagen shootings

The head of Denmark's intelligence agency has announced his resignation hours before a government report on the police force's handling of two fatal shooting attacks in February.

Jens Madsen, chief of the Danish Security and Intelligence Service since January 2014, says in a statement it has been "a very demanding period."

Later Wednesday, the justice minister is to release a report on the Feb. 14-15 attacks on a free speech event and a synagogue that left two people dead and wounded five in Copenhagen.

The security agency has acknowledged that the shooter, a former prisoner who served time for a stabbing, was listed by prison authorities as being at risk of Islamic radicalization. However, officials said they had no reason to believe he was planning any attacks.
