Demjanjuk defense attorney questions credibility of witness

MUNICH (AP) — The defense lawyer for alleged Nazi prison guard John Demjanjuk is questioning the credibility of a witness who testified that he thought Demjanjuk had lied about where he was during World War II.

Demjanjuk is standing trial on 28,060 counts of accessory to murder on allegations he was a guard at the Nazis' Sobibor death camp. He denies the charges.

Former U.S. prosecutor Norman Moscowitz testified Wednesday that, during Demjanjuk's 1981 denaturalization trial, inconsistencies in his testimony "contributed to my sense he was not telling the truth."

But attorney Ulrich Busch told the court Thursday that Moscowitz was later chastised by a federal panel for failing to disclose exculpatory evidence in a timely fashion.

Moscowitz said that was not relevant to his Munich testimony.
