Congolese ex-vice president, legal team to stand trial on witnesses tampering charges at ICC

Judges at the International Criminal Court have ordered a former Congolese vice president and members of his legal team to stand trial on charges of interfering with justice.

The case focuses on allegations that former vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba and his defense team bribed and influenced witnesses to give false evidence in Bemba's long-running trial at the court.

Bemba has been on trial for nearly four years on charges of failing to rein in or punish members of a militia he commanded who allegedly committed murders, rapes and pillaging in Central African Republic from 2002 to 2003. He has pleaded not guilty.

In their order Tuesday, judges didn't set a date for the new trial.
