Chinese president arrives in Pakistan to unveil $46B in energy, infrastructure projects

Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Pakistan on a two-day visit in which he is expected to announce $46 billion worth of investment projects in energy and infrastructure development.

Pakistani state TV showed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the country's top civilian and military leadership receiving the visiting president Monday at an air force base near the capital, Islamabad.

Pakistan's minister for planning and development, Ahsan Iqbal, has said Xi will sign memoranda of understanding for $46 billion worth of projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors.

China and Pakistan have long maintained close relations, but Xi postponed a visit to Islamabad last year due to anti-government protests, and went ahead with a visit to Pakistan's regional rival India.
