Chinese man charges into officials' meeting, detonates suicide bomb, kills self and 1 other

Published January 08, 2015

A Chinese state-run news agency says a villager ran into a meeting of local Communist Party officials in eastern China and detonated explosives strapped to his body, killing himself and one other person.

The China News Service reported that four people were injured in Friday's suicide bombing at a meeting of a village party committee in Anhui province.

The report cites a local resident as saying the villager who carried out the attack had repeatedly sought government welfare but had not obtained it.

The county government overseeing the village said on its website that authorities were investigating.

The bombing was reminiscent of the kind of revenge attacks occasionally launched by disgruntled citizens in China. Assailants angered at perceived injustices have blown up buses, stabbed officials and attacked schools.
