Bulgaria's Socialist-backed government survives another confidence vote in Parliament

Published January 13, 2015

For the second time in two weeks, Bulgaria's government has survived a confidence vote in Parliament, but the opposition plans to continue is drive to unseat a government that only has been in power since May.

Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski's left-leaning government won Thursday's vote by 118-93, relying once again on 120 lawmakers in his Socialist Party and support from the mainly Turkish MRF party and the nationalist Ataka party.

The latest motion accused the government of failed policies in regional development and infrastructure in the EU's poorest country.

The oppositional center-right GERB party said it will continue to call such confidence votes until the government resigns, relying on a law that allows such motions over and over again, as long as each one raises a separate issue.
