British Man Claims in Court He Killed Prostitutes

Published November 17, 2014

The man accused of murdering three prostitutes in Bradford walked into a court today and declared that his name was “the Crossbow Cannibal”.

Stephen Griffiths, 40, is accused of murdering three sex workers who were last seen alive in the red light district of Bradford. They disappeared over the past 11 months.

Griffiths, wearing a black shirt over a white T-shirt and dark jeans, was led into the dock at Bradford Magistrates’ Court in handcuffs. Staring at him across the court were the families of his alleged victims Susan Rushworth, Suzanne Blamires and Shelley Armitage.

Several broke down and began crying as the university graduate, who was studying for a Ph.D. in criminology, made his brief appearance at 10:02 a.m.

The district judge, Mrs. Susan Bouch, initially asked for Griffiths' name. With his hands held together as though he was praying, he said: “Er... the Crossbow Cannibal.” He was next asked for his address. “Er... here, I guess.”
