Bribe Suspects Toss $300,000 From Car During Moscow Getaway

Moscow motorists got a shock when suspected corrupt bureaucrats, being chased by police, tossed 10 million rubles -- about $320,000 in cash -- from their car on a main city thoroughfare, local media reported Friday.

The banknotes were scattered across an avenue in the south of the Russian capital and television networks aired footage of investigators patiently collecting the bills as amused motorists and traffic police looked on.

The incident occurred Thursday when officials of the federal fishery agency suspected of taking bribes threw the cash from the posh Cadillac Escalade SUV when they realized they were about to be caught red-handed by police, populist website Lifenews.ru said.

The suspect officials, identified by the fishery agency as Boris Simonov and Roman Postnikov, also got into a minor traffic accident as they attempted to escape, the reports said.
