The Brazilian government says it has filed a motion with the Supreme Court in hopes of annulling the impeachment process against President Dilma Rousseff.
The Solicitor Generals' office said on its Twitter page the motion was filed on Thursday. Further information was not immediately available.
It's the latest volley amid weeks of legal wrangling over a process in Congress that has exposed deep divisions in Latin America's largest country.
The lower house Chamber of Deputies is expected to vote on Sunday whether the impeachment process moves ahead based on allegations that Rousseff's administration violated fiscal rules.
The pro-impeachment camp needs two-thirds of the 513 votes in the lower house, or 342 votes, to send the proceedings to the Senate for a possible trial.
