Bolivian businessman making 3rd run for presidency in attempt to unseat Evo Morales

One of Bolivia's most important businessmen is making a third run for the presidency.

The center-right opposition alliance known as the Democratic Unity Coalition named Samuel Doria Medina as its candidate in the Oct. 12 election Tuesday night. He's likely to face President Evo Morales, though the leftist leader has not yet announced his bid for re-election. Polls show Morales with a strong lead.

Doria Medina finished third with less than 8 percent of the vote in 2009, though his party has the largest opposition faction in congress.

Doria Medina is a former finance minister who heads Bolivia's largest cement operation as well as the Bolivian branches of the Burger King and Subway fast food companies.

Also competing is former La Paz Mayor Juan del Grando.
