Bangkok's botched half-marathon apologizes for extra miles, offers runners special T-shirt

Published November 17, 2015

Runners who took part in Bangkok's extra-long half-marathon are getting an apology from organizers in the form of a commemorative T-shirt.

Organizers of the Standard Chartered Bangkok Half-Marathon said Tuesday that each runner who took part in the event will get a free T-shirt that says, "Finisher of 27.6 km."

The peace offering came after runners vented anger on social media following Sunday's race, which was mistakenly extended by almost 7 kilometers (4 miles).

An error by race officials along the route meant participants ran 27.6 kilometers (17 miles), rather than the usual 21 kilometers (13 miles).
