Bahamas police confirm 4 US citizens died in small plane crash; relatives still being informed

Published January 13, 2015

Associated Press

Bahamas police say they have confirmed that four U.S. citizens died in a weekend crash of a single-engine plane.

Assistant Police Commissioner Emrick Seymour said Monday that the identities of the two men and two women are not being released pending notification of relatives. He expects to disclose their names Tuesday.

The Cirrus SR22 plane was registered to First Class Flyers LLC in Cicero, Indiana. A telephone number listed for the company's Indiana address was out of service.

Police say the small plane was destroyed when it crashed into the sea minutes after takeoff Sunday from an airport on Grand Bahama, the chain's northernmost major island.

Authorities say the bodies have been recovered.
