At least 21 dead in 2 China car accidents

At least 21 people, including 14 children, have died in a pair of traffic accidents in China, one a pileup of more than 100 cars in foggy weather.

The official Xinhua News Agency says the 14 children died when the vehicle taking them to school Monday plunged into a creek in the central province of Hunan. Six others were injured. A Hengyang city government spokesman tells Xinhua the weather was very foggy at the time.

In neighboring Guizhou province, Xinhua says seven people died and 15 were injured after a truck crashed into a gas station in fog Monday, causing a pileup involving more than 100 cars.

Road accidents are common in China because of overloaded and unsafe vehicles, poor road conditions and bad driving habits.
