After latest South Sudan violence, a mystery: Where are wounded Murle warriors?

A battle between warring ethnic groups in South Sudan saw thousands of men march to fight. After the battle, at least 200 wounded from the attacking side surfaced. But days later a mystery remains: Where are the wounded from the other side?

The fighting began when the Lou Nuer community in Jonglei state mounted an attack against the Murle earlier this month. The two ethnic groups are bitter enemies with years of deadly battles between them. After the battle, the U.N. Humanitarian Air Service flew out 159 casualties from the Lou Nuer side. But no one seems to know where the Murle wounded are.

Brian Kelly, spokesman for the U.N. mission in South Sudan, said the mission is as frustrated as everyone else over the scarcity of verified casualty figures.
