7 Indonesian crewmen abducted in Philippines

Published June 24, 2016

Associated Press

Indonesia's foreign minister says seven crewmen of a tugboat have been abducted after their ship was hijacked in Philippine waters.

Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi told reporters Friday that the Indonesian government will try all options to free the hostages.

He says the government received confirmation that six of a total of 13 crew members of the tugboat that was towing a coal barge have been freed with the vessel and were on their way to Indonesia.

The Abu Sayyaf militant group in the southern Philippines has been blamed for previous kidnappings in the restive region.
