5 German airline crew killed in car accident south of Egypt's Red Sea resort town of Hurghada

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

Egypt's state-run news agency MENA says five Germans and three Egyptians have been killed in a road accident south of the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada.

A police official says the five Germans are crew members of an airline who were on their way early Sunday to the Hurghada airport. Another German crew member was injured.

The accident happened when the microbus carrying the Germans entered a main road and crashed with a passing tourist microbus. Both drivers, Egyptians, were killed.

The police official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to brief the media.

Egypt's roads are considered among the most dangerous in the world due to lax enforcement of traffic laws. Thousands die in accidents each year.
