3 private guards to face manslaughter charges for UK death of Angolan deportee

Prosecutors say three British security guards will face manslaughter charges in the 2010 death of an Angolan who collapsed while being deported.

Jimmy Mubenga died of cardio-respiratory collapse while being restrained on a British Airways plane as the flight taxied at London's Heathrow Airport. The plane stopped and he was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Prosecutors had decided in 2012 that the guards would not face charges but the case was re-examined after an inquest found Mubenga was the victim of unlawful killing.

The three men charged — Colin Kaler, Terrence Hughes and Stuart Tribelnig — worked for G4S Care and Justice Services UK Limited.

G4S, a major contractor for the British government with several high-profile missteps in recent years, is not charged in the case.
