2 traditional healers in Swaziland fined for using parts of crocodiles, lions and pythons

NHLANGANO, Swaziland (AP) — A court in Swaziland has ordered two women to pay fines of 4,000 emalangeni (about $500) each after they were arrested in a crackdown on traditional healers whose concoctions depend on parts from protected animals.

During Tuesday's hearing in southern Swaziland, Nomsa Nhlabatsi, 38, and Thuli Irene Mdluli, 38, pleaded guilty and asked for leniency, saying they were caring for husbands and children.

The two women were found with crocodile heads and lion and python skins during a raid a month ago as part of Operation Tilwane — or Operation Animals.
