2 provincial officials sent for prosecution as China forges ahead with crackdown on corruption

Two provincial officials have been kicked out of China's ruling Communist Party and sent for prosecution amid a spreading crackdown on corruption.

The party's corruption watchdog said on its website Wednesday that Wang Suyi and Li Daqiu also were fired from their jobs.

It said both were accused of receiving enormous amounts of money and goods in return for performing favors for others, and are suspected of criminal offenses.

China's leaders have intensified efforts in recent months to rein in widespread corruption and government waste.

Wang was one of the top officials in sprawling, coal-rich Inner Mongolia as a member of the regional party standing committee. Li was a vice chairman of the provincial advisory body in the southern region of Guangxi.
