Police in northern Nigeria's largest city say gunmen have shot dead two people.
Kano state police spokesman Rilwanu Dutse said Friday the attack occurred Thursday evening at a major junction in the city where people buy cigarettes and play cards.
Dutse said the gunmen arrived and shot at the crowds. He said a policeman was injured in the attack.
He declined to say who they suspected but suspicion fell on the radical Islamist sect known as Boko Haram.
The sect claimed responsibility for a coordinated January assault in Kano that killed at least 185 people.
