Woman pleads guilty to fraud after stealing from employer

A West Virginia woman has pleaded guilty to mail fraud after being accused of stealing from her employer.

United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II announced in a news release that 47-year-old Debra Moses of Martinsburg pleaded guilty Thursday.

Ihlenfeld says that while Moses worked as a legal assistant at Cassell and Prinz, PLLC, she deposited checks intended for the firm's lawyers into her personal bank account. The checks came from the Social Security Administration, which mailed checks to the firm to compensate its lawyers for attorney fees associated with successful social security claims.

Moses pleaded guilty to misappropriating about $300,000. She faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
