Woman accused of taking newborn from mall seeks trial move

Published July 25, 2016

Associated Press

A suburban Philadelphia woman charged with kidnapping a newborn from a shopping mall wants her trial moved, saying "extensive publicity" will prevent her from getting a fair trial.

The (Pottstown) Mercury (http://bit.ly/29VfhA8 ) reports that 32-year-old Cherie Amoore filed papers in Montgomery County court seeking a change of venue for her trial on kidnapping and other charges.

Authorities say Amoore struck up a conversation with the baby's mother at the King of Prussia mall in March and took the boy when the mother was distracted with another child. The boy was found unharmed at Amoore's nearby apartment.

Amoore has told police she gave birth to a baby who died after only a few hours in February. Her attorneys have indicated that she may use an insanity defense.
