Warrant: Shell casing found on fleeing Virginia man's body

Published March 04, 2016

Associated Press

Authorities investigating the reported self-inflicted death of a man who was running from Virginia police officers say they found drugs on his body, in addition to a loaded revolver and one spent shell casing.

The Winchester Star (http://bit.ly/1TUF3UC) reports that the Virginia State Police filed a search warrant Wednesday in Frederick County Circuit Court seeking data from two cellphones also found on 20-year-old D'Londre Minifield's body in Winchester on Sunday.

The warrant says Minifield shot himself once in the head while lying prone on the ground after having jumped over a fence. The medical examiner's office hasn't released his official cause of death.

Minifield's death has sparked protests in the community. Some witnesses have said they saw police shoot Minifield. Authorities say they never fired any weapons.
