Virginia Tech Police say they are investigating after dozens of people in the campus community received a threatening email message.

Tech Police said in a statement Monday that the email "included a threat to campus safety." Police did not say what kind of threat was made.

Tech Police Chief Kevin Foust said in a post on the school's website that other schools received similar threats Monday. He did not identify those schools.

The website says the campus is open and operating under normal conditions, and classes are in session.

A Tech spokesman did not immediately return a message Monday.

Police are asking anyone with information about the email to contact authorities.
