Virginia officer cleared in fatal shooting of murder suspect

A prosecutor in Virginia has ruled that the March fatal shooting of a fugitive murder suspect by a city police officer was justified.

Gregory D. Underwood, the Commonwealth's Attorney in Norfolk, wrote in a report released Friday that the suspect had fired his gun at two officers as they tried to arrest him.

The report said Tyre Devon Privott was wanted for the March 10 killing of another man, Chaz Hall. A judge had issued warrants for his arrest. The following day, two officers tried to arrest Privott. Underwood wrote that Privott pulled a gun from his waistband as the officers approached and fired at them.

One them, officer Ryan Crowder, fired back from 94 feet away and struck Privott. He was later pronounced dead.
