Virginia Inmate Executed for Killing Two Men

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

JARRATT, Va. -- A Virginia inmate who killed two Richmond men in separate shootings has been executed.

Thirty-seven-year-old Darick Demorris Walker died by injection at 9:24 p.m. Thursday at Greensville Correctional Center in Jarratt.

Walker was convicted of killing Stanley Beale in 1996 and Clarence Elwood Threat in 1997.

Virginia law allows the death penalty for anyone who commits two premeditated murders within three years.

The U.S. Supreme Court refused to block Walker's execution Thursday, days after Gov. Bob McDonnell said he found no compelling reason to commute the sentence to life.

Walker was the 107th inmate put to death in Virginia since the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated capital punishment in 1976. Only Texas has executed more prisoners.
