Utah grandmother arrested after police find meth pipe in granddaughter's backpack

A grandmother is facing child endangerment charges after authorities said a meth pipe was found in her 8-year-old granddaughter's backpack.

The Standard-Examiner newspaper in Ogden reported (http://bit.ly/1IG9jcv ) the woman was recently charged with a felony after a teacher made the Oct. 21 discovery at a school in Washington Terrace, Utah. Police say the pipe was inside a plastic baggy.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay said police and child welfare workers searched the home where the girl was living and found drugs and drug paraphernalia near her toys and books.

Investigators said the woman was taking care of the child. She has not yet entered a plea.

The girl's parents were also arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. They have pleaded not guilty.
