US stocks open mixed, following losses in Europe as Greece heads for early elections

U.S. stocks are opening mixed following losses in Europe as Greece heads for early elections that could affect the country's bailout program.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost seven points, or 0.1 percent, to 18,039 as of 9:35 a.m. Eastern time Monday.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index was flat at 2,088. The Nasdaq composite was also flat 4,806.

European markets fell. Greece's main index fell 4 percent.

Benchmark U.S. crude oil rose 39 cents to $55.13 a barrel in New York. Oil is down by nearly half since June.

Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 2.22 percent.
