US Coast Guard rescues 2 American boaters stranded on tiny uninhabited island in Bahamas

The U.S. Coast Guard has rescued two American boaters stranded on a tiny uninhabited island in the Bahamas.

The two U.S. citizens were moving a motorboat from the Turks & Caicos Islands to the Florida city of Fort Pierce when the vessel began taking on water. They ran the struggling boat aground on Lady Slipper Cay, a tiny speck of land north of Crooked Island in the sprawling archipelago off Florida's east coast.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued the pair Tuesday at the remote Bahamian island after receiving a request for assistance from the Caribbean country's military.

A Coast Guard statement says the Americans were in good health. It did not identify them.
