US agency wants family of Ohio man declared dead to repay benefits now that he turned up alive

The government wants to recoup benefits paid to relatives of an Ohio man who was declared legally dead and then turned up alive.

Donald Miller Jr. disappeared in the 1980s, and a death ruling in 1994 allowed his family to get Social Security benefits. When the 62-year-old Miller resurfaced, saying he'd been living elsewhere, the government took notice.

The Courier in Findlay (http://bit.ly/1mSjyiQ) reports letters shared by Miller's ex-wife show the Social Security Administration wants his two daughters to return over $47,000 to repay benefits plus interest.

Miller, of Fostoria, has tried to undo his death.

Even as he stood in court providing evidence of his existence, a Hancock County judge turned down a request to bring him back to life, citing a three-year limit for changing a death ruling.
