Tufts names Oxford scientist as next president

Tufts University has named noted neuroscientist and University of Oxford administrator Anthony Monaco as its next president.

Monaco, pro-vice chancellor for planning and resources at Oxford, takes over from Lawrence Bacow next summer. Bacow announced in February he would step down after 10 years leading the Boston-area university.

The 51-year-old Monaco is a native of Wilmington, Del., with degrees from Princeton and Harvard.

His research has focused on the genetic basis of autism, dyslexia and other disorders.

Monaco said in a statement that leading Tufts is a "great honor" and he shares the university's passion for increasing access to higher education.
