The man charged with the Colorado theater massacre is returning to court for the second day of hearings about what kinds of experts can testify at his trial.

The hearing resumes Wednesday on a defense motion to bar testimony from firearms experts.

On Tuesday, the judge heard testimony on whether experts on gunshot residue and metals should take the stand at the trial. The judge hasn't said when he'll rule.

James Holmes is scheduled to go on trial starting Dec. 8 on charges of killing 12 people and injuring 70 in the July 2012 attack on a Denver-area theater. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Holmes will undergo a second sanity evaluation this summer. The judge ruled the first one was flawed.
