The Latest on the killing of a Los Angeles County sheriff's sergeant during a burglary call (all times local):

2:30 p.m.

A paroled robber has been charged with the killing of a Los Angeles County sheriff's sergeant.

Twenty-seven-year-old Trenton Lovell was charged Friday with murder and other felonies that make him eligible for the death penalty or life in prison.

Prosecutors will decide which to seek.

Lovell remains jailed and it's unclear if he has a lawyer.

He was arrested on Wednesday after sheriff's Sgt. Steven Owen was gunned down while responding to a burglary report.

Sheriff Jim McDonnell has said the killer shot Owen and then pumped four more bullets into as he lay on the ground.

Authorities say Lovell was captured after he pointed a gun at another deputy, stole Owen's patrol car, rammed another police vehicle with it, and held two teenagers hostage at knifepoint in a building.
