Tennessee man convicted of attempted manslaughter, assault charges after road-rage shooting

A jury has convicted a Tennessee man of attempted manslaughter and other charges after he shot one motorcyclist and backed his SUV into another.

The Knoxville News Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1FRoPV5) reports Knox County jurors didn't accept a self-defense claim by 63-year-old Rodney Lee Scott when they returned their verdict Wednesday after deliberating for about five hours. But they also did not convict him of a more serious charge of attempted murder.

According to trial testimony, Scott swerved into the path of the motorcyclists, who then began following him. The motorcyclists testified they were trying to get his tag number to give to police.

Scott's attorney said his actions were driven by a fear of being attacked.

Prosecutors argued that Scott acted out of anger.
