Tenn. police shoot man in ATM gunfire; woman hurt

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

Police have shot a man they say fired wildly on the street after attacking a woman at an ATM outside a credit union in Knoxville, Tenn.

Police said the man carrying two guns fired at passing vehicles Wednesday and at the woman as she tried to flee in her pickup truck. She crashed into a building. The man got into the truck's cab and was shot by an officer after refusing to get out again.

Police spokesman Darrell DeBusk told The Knoxville News Sentinel the man and woman were both taken to a hospital. Their conditions and names were not immediately available.

DeBusk said the man accosted the woman while she was withdrawing money from an ATM at a TVA Employees Credit Union, which was not yet open for the day.
