Teen accused of killing Texas county official found dead

Published November 20, 2014

Associated Press

A teenager accused of killing a former Central Texas county official who went to help him after the teen had a car wreck has been found dead in an apparent suicide.

Nineteen-year-old Manuel De Los Reyes Galeas of San Antonio had been the subject of a manhunt since former Atascosa County Commissioner Tommy Shearrer was shot Wednesday.

Authorities say the teen's body was found Friday afternoon near a creek.

Authorities said they believe Shearrer walked outside his house to help Galeas after he crashed into a ditch nearby.

Atascosa County Chief Deputy David Soward says Galeas died from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound from the same weapon used to kill Shearrer.

A funeral service was held Saturday for Shearrer in Atascosa County, south of San Antonio.
