State nearing halfway point in Casey Anthony trial

Published November 17, 2014

Associated Press

An acquaintance of a central Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter has testified that he never introduced Casey Anthony to a babysitter whom she claims kidnapped her toddler.

Jeff Hopkins was called Thursday as the first witness on the eighth day of testimony in Casey Anthony's murder trial.

Anthony had told investigators her daughter, Caylee, was kidnapped by the babysitter. But witnesses have testified that no such babysitter existed.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder. If convicted, she could be sentenced to death. Anthony's attorney says Caylee died in an accidental drowning.
