Spanier reportedly drops lawsuit for Penn State emails

The former president of Penn State University is dropping a civil lawsuit that sought the release of his university emails involving convicted predator Jerry Sandusky.

The Centre Daily Times reports that Graham Spanier moved to dismiss the case on Wednesday.

The May lawsuit says Spanier needed the emails to refresh his memory before cooperating with the Louis Freeh investigation.

The issue now appears moot, as the ex-FBI chief issued his scathing report for the university last week.

The report faults Spanier, football coach Joe Paterno and others for their handling of the abuse complaints.

Sandusky is in prison after being convicted last month of sexually abusing 10 boys, sometimes on the Penn State campus.

Spanier's lawyer did not immediately return a message from The Associated Press.
