Social services center where 14 people were killed to remain closed until at least next month

Officials at the San Bernardino social services center where a husband and wife killed 14 people last week won't reopen until at least next month.

The Inland Regional Center, which serves about 30,000 people with developmental disabilities, had hoped to reopen on Monday.

But center spokeswoman Leeza Hoyt said Tuesday officials have learned it will be some time in January, at the earliest, before they can get back in.

Police still consider the center an active crime scene.

Hoyt says many of the center's 600 employees work in the field. That has officials hoping the closure will provide only minimal disruption in services. But she couldn't say for sure that some clients won't be affected.

The center provides therapy and treatment to people, mostly children, with autism, epilepsy and other developmental disabilities.
