Sheriff: Deputy dragged by car stuns, shoots Alabama suspect

Published January 18, 2018

Associated Press

An Alabama man who authorities say dragged a sheriff's deputy with his vehicle was shot with both a stun gun and a firearm.

AL.com reports Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver says a deputy had reached into 42-year-old Brett Littlejohn's vehicle to arrest him on an outstanding warrant during a traffic stop Wednesday. Littlejohn tried to drive off, as the deputy dangled from the window.

After several hundred feet, the deputy used a stun gun on the suspect three times, which authorities said had no effect. The deputy then fired his gun at Littlejohn to stop the vehicle.

Littlejohn was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital, treated and released. He's charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree assault. It's unclear whether he has a lawyer.

Shaver says the deputy was not injured.
