The first of five ex-employees of imprisoned Ponzi king Bernard Madoff is scheduled to be sentenced Monday after a New York jury convicted them earlier this year.

The government seeks prison terms of more than a decade for each while defense attorneys want leniency.

Daniel Bonventre is the first to face sentencing Monday. Madoff's former secretary, two computer programmers and an account manager face sentencing in the days that follow.

Bonventre was Madoff's director of operations. Prosecutors say he should get substantially more than the 20 years in prison the Probation Department has recommended. His lawyers say he should face no prison time because he was a victim of Madoff too.

Prosecutors say Madoff's multi-billion dollar fraud relied on all five. Madoff is serving a 150-year prison sentence.
