San Antonio officer slain while writing ticket to be remembered at service

A San Antonio police detective who was shot to death while sitting in his patrol car is set to be remembered at a funeral service.

The funeral for Detective Benjamin Marconi will take place later Monday morning at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio.

The 50-year-old Marconi was fatally shot Nov. 20 as he sat in his patrol car writing a traffic ticket outside of police headquarters. A 31-year-old man has been charged with capital murder in the attack.

Among those who are set to speak at the service are Marconi's two grown children, some of his fellow law officers and state Sen. Carlos Uresti.

Marconi was a 20-year veteran of the department. He will be cremated.
