Review panel recommends Border Patrol add 350 internal investigators, fixes to force policies

Published May 03, 2016

Associated Press

A Homeland Security advisory panel is recommending that Customs and Border Protection more than double the number of internal affairs investigators.

The recommendation comes in an interim report from an agency Integrity Advisory Panel assigned last year with looking at the agency's policies and procedures.

The former head of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Karen Tandy, and New York Police Commissioner William Bratton lead the group.

The panel is also recommending that CBP, the parent agency of U.S. Border Patrol, improve its use of force policies.

The report has not been released publicly and was obtained by The Associated Press. The group's recommendations were first reported by The Los Angeles Times and The Arizona Republic.
