Residents asked to be on lookout for fighter jet wreckage

Published July 07, 2016

Investigators are asking the public to be on the lookout for an ejection seat and canopy from one of two fighter jets that crashed after a midair collision in Georgia.

Two F-16s from the South Carolina Air National Guard collided over Jefferson County in east Georgia while training on June 7. Both pilots ejected and survived with no serious injuries.

Robins Air Force Base officials say they want people in the area to keep an eye out for any debris or remnants from the crash, especially the missing ejection seat and canopy that covers the cockpit.

The base said in a statement that anyone finding wreckage should not move it, and should call 911 to report the find.
