Report: Slain Calif. officer was shot with own gun

Court documents say a California police officer was shot at least three times and killed with his own gun after he slipped during a chase and was struck in the head with a metal bar.

The documents were released Tuesday.

Earl Ellis Green of Rubidoux is charged with killing Riverside Officer Ryan Bonaminio on Nov. 7. The Press-Enterprise reports that Green, who has a long and violent criminal history, is undergoing a mental evaluation.

Prosecutors say he killed the 27-year-old officer after stealing a big-rig truck and getting in a hit-and-run accident.
